Protective Varnish—Everyday Defense for Your Labels
Shield your artwork from scuffs and color rub-off without changing the natural feel of the paper. Our clear varnish:
- Provides a thin, invisible barrier against abrasion
- Keeps colors vibrant and print clean over time
- Comes in your choice of Gloss or Matt finish
Ideal for:
- Premium food, wine, or cosmetic labels displayed indoors
- Cartons, sleeves, and inserts that see moderate handling
- Projects that also feature embossing, foiling, or other tactile effects
Why choose varnish?
- Cost-effective, press-applied coating—no extra production step
- Compatible with virtually any paper stock, including uncoated options
- Fully recyclable in standard paper waste streams
How does the protective varnish work?
- Print first, protect last
After your labels have been fully printed, we add one more step: a clear liquid varnish is flooded across the surface—whether your job is on sheets or rolls. - Instant UV curing
The coated labels pass beneath a UV lamp, which hardens (or “cures”) the varnish in seconds. This chemical cross-linking seals the ink layer and creates a smooth, durable skin. - Result: color-fast, scuff-resistant labels
The cured coating prevents color rub-off, minor scratching, and everyday handling marks without noticeably changing the thickness or flexibility of the material.
Choose your finish
- Matt varnish – pairs perfectly with matt or textured papers to maintain a natural, low-glare look.
- Gloss varnish – best for glossy papers or polypropylene film and enhances color depth and shine.
What’s the difference between Labels with protective varnish or film lamination?
Protective varnish is a thin, clear coating on your labels that guards your labels against everyday wear and tear. It works on any label material and with all decorative finishing touches. It also remains printable afterwards with thermal-transfer printers. If you require more protection, we offer film lamination that bonds a matte or glossy film to the label with adhesive, pressure and UV light. This laminate offers heavier-duty protection ideal when labels may rub together or come in contact with moisture or chemicals. Film lamination is not suitable if your labels require blind or relief embossing.
